Break-up

Alaskans sometimes use a different lingo than people do from the lower 48. One of the phreases, break-up, is what we would think of as being a separation of two individuals that have been dating, engaged, or married. Well Alaskans use that meaning too, but they also have a different meaning for that phrase. Break-up is talked about in early spring in Alaska when all of the ice and snow start to melt and make a huge mess on roads and parking lots. Everyone's cars and trucks are smeared in dirt and leftover salt and junk from the winter. No one is exempt from this process, unless you are a hermit and never drive a car. About a month ago, I took a couple pictures of the "lake" in our apartment parking lot. There were times I wondered if my little mitsubishi would make it through.....
